COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Madison was named the best city for families in Alabama by Niche—its schools, safety, and clean neighborhoods earned top marks. The report evaluated over 600 communities using data from federal agencies.  FOX 54

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carmen Fuentes visited the Early Works Museum in downtown Huntsville where kids can play and explore STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) while taking a break from the summer heat.  WHNT News 19

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Alligator sightings are increasing in southern and western Huntsville as heavy rains make the animals more visible, and city officials warn residents not to feed or interact with them — people should call police if an alligator threatens anyone.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The FBI postponed moving its National Academy training program to Huntsville— citing infrastructure limitations. The bureau will keep using its campus at Redstone Arsenal— and plans to shift advanced training when new facilities are ready.  1819 News
  • Huntsville officials finalized the design for Big Spring Park's expansion today—adding about 2.4 acres at the old city hall site with terraced plazas, a central pavilion, new sidewalks, upgraded landscaping and a water feature—and will seek city council approval; if approved, work will finish by mid-2027.  WAAY 31
  • City leaders said today that final phase work on the Sandra Moon Community Complex, which includes rebuilding the former Grissom High School auditorium + adding an event center, will finish roughly a year from now.  WAFF 48
  • Huntsville is raising sewer rates for the first time in 20 years to finance a $150 million upgrade to its aging infrastructure — city officials said the move will help avoid costly repairs later.  FOX 54

HEALTH NEWS

  • Madison Hospital now offers psychiatric and neurological care via telehealth using high-tech cameras so patients can easily meet specialists; Helen Keller Hospital will add this service later this year—improving care without long travel.   AL.com

  • Huntsville is set to expand its Ice Sports Center with new rinks, curling lanes & extra seating in the coming weeks. The planned upgrades aim to boost local hockey and curling events.  FOX 54
