  • Project Unify from Morgan County will head to Texas to help with flooding relief and recovery efforts — the group plans to support local communities by assisting with emergency repairs and ongoing recovery work.  WAFF 48

  • A male motorcyclist died after his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle on University Drive near Jordan Lane in Huntsville on Wednesday night, and the car driver was hurt and is getting treatment at Huntsville Hospital.  WAFF 48

  • Hound and Harvest announced that its last day of service will be Sunday, July 13.  WAFF 48

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Huntsville was ranked the fourth best mid-sized metro for STEM jobs by CoworkingCafe based on job availability, wage growth, affordability, and education. The report noted that 23% of the local workforce works in STEM and that STEM jobs increased by 30.7% since 2019—local salaries average $94,540 versus a national $96,000.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • A GoBankingRates study found that Huntsville is ranked as the most affordable and fastest-growing city in Alabama, with a projected 13% population increase by 2030, a median household income of $70,778, and average living costs of $40,409 for renters and $42,970 for homeowners—its average home value is $272,010.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The City’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and CAFY will host an annual backpack and school supply giveaway on July 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at Calhoun Community College’s Huntsville Research Park campus at 102 Wynn Drive NW. Students ages 12 to 18 can pick up free supplies while they last — donations from recent drives — and families will have the chance to connect with local youth services and public safety agencies.  City of Huntsville

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Huntsville Hospital is offering inpatient telemedicine services that connect patients to expert psychiatrists and neurologists at Madison Hospital + Helen Keller Hospital through a secure video link. The program will expand across the health system to assist rural hospitals that lack full-time specialists.  WAAY 31
