ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ HEMSI officials said Thursday at 8:04 p.m. near Cedar Point Drive and Pulaski Pike north of Winchester Road that a vehicle hit two motorcycles—one rider died at the scene and the other was taken to Huntsville Hospital for further evaluation. WHNT News 19
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Decatur officer Mac Marquette is charged with murder for fatally shooting Stephen Perkins in his front yard—during a tow truck repossession on Sept. 29—and will go to trial in September if an appeals court upholds the decision that denied his immunity. WHNT News 19
- ➤ On July 10th, car break-ins rose in Madison County — the Sheriff’s Office began investigating to catch suspects and stop the trend. WAAY 31

- ➤ Drake State Community and Technical College is upgrading its advanced manufacturing lab—an effort that strengthens its 15-year partnership with NASA’s HUNCH program. The college recently installed a Haas VF6 SS Machining Center in its new Leidos Advanced Training Complex—boosting real aerospace training opportunities for its students. Huntsville Business Journal

- ➤ A dense fog advisory has been issued for northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee until 9 a.m. CDT this morning — visibility can drop to one-quarter of a mile. Drivers should slow down — use headlights and leave extra distance to stay safe. WAAY 31

- ➤ The City of Huntsville has extended the application deadline for the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council to Thursday, July 31 at 10 p.m.—local high school students interested in leadership and community service are encouraged to apply. The council, run by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, will meet monthly from September through May for training and project work. City of Huntsville
- ➤ Huntsville City Council approved a plan to annex more than 1,000 acres across the Tennessee Valley, extending its limits into Marshall County for the first time. Councilwoman Jennie Robinson said the move brings a rock quarry under city control to preserve the riverfront and nearby neighborhoods—some residents worry current roads may not be maintained.
