  • Reid Rainwater started a petition that has collected over 1,400 signatures to install a guardrail along a dangerous stretch of U.S. 231 near Arab after a fatal crash on July 2 injured a Huntsville public works employee and two others. The Alabama Department of Transportation is reviewing the safety concerns—locals hope the changes will help prevent further accidents.  WAFF 48

  • Nathaniel Picard of Grant was pronounced dead after a vehicle—motorcycle crash on University Drive in Huntsville Wednesday night.  WAFF 48

CRIME NEWS

  • Randy Steven Smith, 48, of Huntsville was indicted on four counts—sexual exploitation of children, receipt, possession and transfer of child pornography—for incidents that occurred in Madison County from 2023 to 2024, with multiple law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.  WHNT News 19
  • Huntsville Police are searching for 54-year-old Neilsen Bell—last seen on July 7 at 6 p.m. on Maysville Road and described as a 5′9″ white male with buzzed hair—after his mother reported him missing on July 9 and said he may be in a mental health crisis.  WAFF 48
  • A healthcare provider employee named Monica Bishop was arrested on July 11 after she avoided an ADOC checkpoint near Limestone Correctional Facility and a search of her red SUV turned up drugs (195.33g methamphetamines, 159.74g marijuana, and 190g chemically altered paper) that led to multiple drug charges.  WHNT News 19
  • Madison Posey, a Huntsville mother, said she seeks answers after her four-month-old daughter Kyla died nearly one month ago from severe injuries sustained when her father Victavious Dennis dropped her during a bath+ Dennis is charged with murder and aggravated child abuse while Posey claims child protection and emergency response systems failed her daughter.  WHNT News 19
  • Motel workers at the Economy Inn on University Drive said that two men and a child checked in Tuesday night and are linked to Aaron Williams, who is wanted after a welfare check found two deaths and a missing three-year-old—police say the 6-foot-1, 240-pound suspect may be traveling in a gray Honda Accord with tag '43A224A' while Crime Stoppers and the FBI offer a $15,000 reward for tips.  WHNT News 19

  • Billionaire entrepreneur and astronaut Jared Issacman announced Friday that he will donate $15 million to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to help enhance Space Camp facilities— the donation will fund new activities at the Inspiration4 Skills Training Complex and upgrade programs for the summer camp season in 2026.  WHNT News 19
