- ➤ At the latest HMCPL board meeting, community members debated restricting children’s books while many urged the library to seek local funding instead of following state rules—comments made just ahead of an upcoming state meeting on guideline reviews. - ➤ Huntsville International Airport broke its record for June with 160,455 passengers, a 9.1 percent increase from last June, and officials said bigger planes and more flights drove the growth. - ➤ Officers from Huntsville Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison Police Department carried out a split radar operation on I-565 from Wall Triana Highway to Chapman Mountain on July 14 from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—stopping over 140 vehicles and issuing 104 citations and 79 warnings, including one driver clocked at 97 mph as part of a Summer Slowdown effort to lessen reckless speeding. - ➤ NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center will celebrate its 65th anniversary on Saturday, July 19 at The Orion Amphitheater in Mid City District with space exhibits, music, food vendors and hands-on activities for all ages — several Expedition 72 astronauts will share their experiences from the International Space Station during the free event from noon to 5 p.m. The Madison Record
- ➤ Limestone County officials say the sheriff’s department needs more deputies as the county, which was the fastest growing last year, now has only 59 of the 234 recommended officers.
