Four AgTech startups—Downland, Ecobrew, Oceanfarmr, and Tylmen Tech—presented their innovations at a Monday night red carpet event held at the Atrium at HudsonAlpha Institute, where each received a $100,000 investment and access to local investors, mentors, and new customers.

The event, powered by gener8tor and supported by Innovate Alabama, marked the end of the fifth accelerator cohort and aims to drive job growth in North Alabama.

A man was arrested after he was pulled over on a stolen moped on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Huntsville — officers found a stolen handgun and drugs in his bag, and he was charged with possession of a controlled substance and receiving stolen property while being held on a $50,000 bond.

Huntsville City Schools launched a survey Tuesday asking residents to help choose the start date for the 2026‑2027 school year.

The survey—posted on Facebook—offers two options: start on August 5 with 84 school days in semester 1 and 96 in semester 2, or begin on July 30 with 90 days in each semester, and it remains open until August 1.

Huntsville Hospital said it is asking the state to approve a plan to add extra emergency services—building two free-standing emergency departments in Hampton Cove and north Huntsville and expanding Madison Hospital’s emergency center with six new beds to boost capacity by 25 percent. The hospital submitted a letter of intent, will apply for a Certificate of Need later this summer, plans to finish design this winter, and will start construction in spring.

Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill and Chuck’s Fish are open at Clift Farm in Madison — new restaurant options including Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, Melt, La Parrilla and Rock N’ Roll Sushi will open in early 2026 while Drybar has started serving as its first Alabama location.

The 500-acre development also features a village green for events and hundreds of residences under construction with completion expected in five to 10 years.
