COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gurley residents are still cleaning up after an EF-2 tornado severely damaged several homes in the Killingsworth Cove area, with Dusty Gipson waiting for an insurance assessment for his home destroyed on May 20 — firefighters also cleared rubble from a leveled home and rescued a groundhog from the debris.  WAFF 48
  • On July 21, the City of Huntsville Planning Department hosted a public meeting at City Hall for the North Huntsville Greenway where residents and expert consultants from Lord Aeck Sargent, Alta Planning + Design, and Sixpitch joined interactive activities and reviewed conceptual node designs inspired by the Atlanta Beltline—fueling community support for a trail that connects neighborhoods. The meeting helped shape plans under the Greenway Master Plan—promising improvements in public spaces, economic development, and recreation for the area.  City of Huntsville

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Huntsville’s Teledyne Brown Engineering announced last week that it successfully completed its role in the ELVIS mission on the International Space Station—delivering key engineering and safety support for the project. The company stated that all scientific objectives were met, and the samples will now return to Earth for further testing.  WHNT News 19

CRIME NEWS

  • Early Monday morning a man was stabbed at Big Spring Park and taken to the hospital in stable condition while Huntsville Police said the suspect fled on foot + the investigation is ongoing.  WAFF 48
  • Huntsville police said a woman was attacked with a knife on Sparkman Drive Sunday afternoon and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries & the major crimes unit is investigating the incident.  WAAY 31
  • Huntsville Police responded early Monday morning at Big Spring Park (3:40 a.m.) to a reported cutting incident and found an adult man with a knife injury who was taken to the hospital in stable condition after the suspect left the scene.  WHNT News 19

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Huntsville International Airport set a new monthly record in June with 160,455 passengers, up 9.1% from last year—airline partners increased seat availability and launched expanded nonstop flights to meet demand. The airport also added modern amenities and plans further upgrades to keep pace with the region's growth.  Huntsville Business Journal

  • Huntsville resident Margie Reese turned 100 and credited her long life to strong values and a daily bowl of oatmeal (born in 1925 in Tennessee). Her family will soon celebrate her milestone birthday at Brookdale Jones Farm (honoring her century of life).  WAAY 31
