WLRH 89.3 FM/HD in Huntsville announced it focused on local news topics starting Monday after federal funding ended last year.

The station added more community voices from local leaders, nonprofits, and arts groups to enhance regional coverage.

A former dive bar on Jordan Lane now operates as Disco Dolly’s, an inclusive dance club that held a soft opening Friday, July 24 and officially opened the next night with drag shows and burlesque acts — owners plan to expand with a new venue, The Depot, in Owens Cross Roads.

Madison County Schools opened Sparkman Intermediate in Harvest on Friday—a $45 million, 113,000 sqft building that starts with 800 students drawn from local elementary and middle schools.

Officials say the new school is the first in the system in over a decade and meets growing community needs.
