  • Neighbors of an eighth grader from Mountain Gap who was killed by a car after school spoke out – families and community members shared their sorrow and honored his memory after the tragic accident.  WAFF 48

  • Gray Media announced Friday that it reached a deal to buy ten TV stations for $171 million + the sale will close in the fourth quarter after regulators approve the deal.  WAFF 48

  • Huntsville Restaurant Week began on August 8 and will run until August 17 as part of Culinary Month, offering special dining deals + a Rocket City Dish Pass contest with a chance to win a prize pack valued over $850.   • As students return to the classroom in Madison County, mental health professionals are urging parents and educators to use available support resources — counseling services and support groups help address student stress. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SAIC, one of Huntsville’s largest employers with over 2,000 staff, helped the U.S. Army update its missile and air defense systems by integrating new technology to merge data from many systems—lightening the load for commanders. The company also worked with NASA, the FBI and the Missile Defense Agency in Rocket City.  AL.com
  • Huntsville’s Planning Department released estimates on August 8 showing the population reached 249,102 on July 1—a gain of more than 34,000 residents since the 2020 Census. The city’s smart growth plan focuses on adding new housing, with 1,945 units built from January to June and over 4,000 units expected by year’s end to support the growing community.  City of Huntsville
