  • Huntsville Fire and Rescue is responding to a structure fire at Aura Apartments located at 11575 Memorial Parkway SE, and officials advise residents to avoid the area.  WAAY 31

CRIME NEWS

  • Reaford Williams of Morgan County was convicted in 2019 for the murder of Troy Howard after driving wrong-way on I-565 while speeding and drunk, and his request for a new trial was denied by a judge as he now serves a 30+year sentence.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy celebrated its milestone move to the Boulevard in the historic Merrimack Mill district with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 13 attended by local leaders including Mayor Tommy Battle. Today, the new 24,534 square foot facility features a 278-seat theater and expanded classrooms—hosting the Cocktails Under the Stars fundraiser from 6–9 p.m.  Huntsville Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Huntsville City Council approved financial incentives to boost expansions by Parsons Corporation and Performance Drones Works, which will add over 700 high-paying jobs in the city—city payments are tied to job recruitment, training, and relocation sustained over a five-year period.  AL.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Marshall Medical Centers got a grant from HRSA for up to $750,000 — money that will help plan a new Family Medicine Residency Program to train doctors in rural areas. The grant will pay for teacher training, lesson planning and steps to get the program approved.  WHNT News 19

SPORTS NEWS

  • Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle announced that the 2025 Rocket City Classic will feature Alabama facing Kennesaw State at Von Braun Center Propst Arena on Sunday, Dec. 21 and will mark the Crimson Tide’s first regular season game in the arena since 2019. The contest will also serve as a homecoming for Kennesaw State—spotlighting former Bob Jones standout Kaden Rickard as Coach Antoine Pettway leads the team in Conference USA play.  The Madison Record
  • Huntsville City FC will host NYCFC II at Joe Davis Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m.—the festive Luau Night match will give the first 1,000 fans a free illuminated lei from Window World. Fans can watch the game live on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.  FOX 54
