  • The Rocket City Microthon in Huntsville celebrated unity and fun when more than 200 participants raced 383 feet for nonprofit Merrimack Huntsville—showing community spirit and inclusivity.  FOX 54

CRIME NEWS

  • Police say a suspect barricaded himself in an apartment outside Gate 10 near Redstone Arsenal after firing into an apartment and, following a negotiation effort, the armed 38-year-old Edward Deon White surrendered—he was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling while nearby residents were evacuated.  WAFF 48
  • An armed suspect reportedly fired shots and barricaded themself in an apartment near Redstone Arsenal — they later surrendered peacefully.  FOX 54

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mill Creek Elementary School selected Alicia Waddail as Teacher of the Year for 2025, and she said she felt complete shock when the Prize Patrol arrived with her award—she said watching her students succeed brings her joy.  The Madison Record
  • Kayla Crum was named Staff Member of the Year for 2025 by faculty, staff, and administrators at James Clemens High School—she reached nine years of service in August and loves coming to work every day.  The Madison Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Senate President Pro-Tem Gudger previewed the final legislative session, saying lawmakers will meet on Jan. 13 at the Alabama State House in Montgomery to consider a bill that would extend the death penalty to child rapists and another that would require protesters to remove masks. He said the proposals aim to respond to serious incidents and reinforce a strong conservative agenda.  1819 News
  • Residents in downtown Huntsville say misleading parking signs led to unexpected tickets—local drivers claim the signs did not clearly show parking rules.  WAFF 48
