Huntsville Animal Services on Triana Boulevard took in 20 dogs and four cats on Monday after removing them from a home, which pushed the shelter to Crisis Level 4.
The agency is asking residents to adopt, foster or sleepover pets to free up space and provide immediate care.
🎭 Culture
Huntsville Ballet announced its 2026–2027 season with Night Songs running Oct.
23–25 at Dream Theater, The Nutcracker with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra scheduled for Dec. 11–13, a dancer-led series set for Feb. 12–14 and The Firebird finale on April 16–18; tickets are available online.
🎓 Education
School board candidates in Districts 2 & 3 discussed how to improve coordination with city leaders to plan for growth from the Harris Farms annexation.
They said data tracking and expanded planning are key to prepare for increased enrollment.
New Century Tech Demo High School, part of the Huntsville City School System, was ranked the top public high school today by U.S. News & World Report based on state tests + AP exam scores.
It earned the highest ranking statewide and in the area.
🏛️ Government
Auburn University opened a new 50,000 sqft laboratory in Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park Tuesday to serve as the nation’s first university-led space electronics testing facility.
Testing will start early 2027 as Auburn teams up with federal partners for radiation hardening studies.

The 2026 high school football season kicks off this week as four local teams play their first games Friday night.
Bob Jones, James Clemens, Sparkman, and Madison Academy will compete with new coaches and returning players — all set for state title dreams after summer practices.
