  • Campus No. 805 — a repurposed middle school turned community hub — will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a month-long series of events from Sept. 1 to Sept. 20 that include a mural unveiling, a report card challenge, and a three-day music festival from Sept. 18 to Sept. 20. City leaders and partners said the project sparked urban renewal and community growth.  WAAY 31

  • HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology has added Veil Genomics as a new resident company on its biotech campus. The startup was founded by local geneticists and offers long-read sequencing to boost research in health, agriculture — and defense.  Huntsville Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, Alabama’s Court of Criminal Appeals rejected Joey Wilson’s rehearing request—he sits on death row for the 1996 cell phone murders that claimed the lives of four men.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • At the 40th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards on August 16, Huntsville native ADIA Andrews won New Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for 'Amen', while Music Ambassador Dante' Pride was nominated for Rap/Hip-Hop Song of the Year thanks to his powerful live performance—highlighting the impact of the city’s Music Ambassador Program.  Huntsville Business Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • July was the busiest month on record at Huntsville International Airport — it saw 168,281 passengers, up 16.7% from last year, with Washington accounting for 17.7% of the traffic and marking the third consecutive record month.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • AT&T and Human I-T provided 100 refurbished laptops to Huntsville students and families through the Village of Promise on Aug 22—efforts that form part of a $5 billion plan to connect 25 million people by 2030.  WHNT News 19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Guntersville VA was renamed in honor of Alabama war hero Colonel Ola Lee Mize who earned the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Korean War and served in Vietnam. The Birmingham VA Health Care System said he repeatedly risked his life at Outpost Harry in June—confirming his bravery.  WHNT News 19
  • The Department of Human Resources is launching a new transportation policy today — a change prompted by the tragic death of a toddler left in a hot car.  FOX 54

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced that frozen shrimp sold under the brands Sand Bar—Arctic Shores—Best Yet—Great American and First Street are recalled for possible radioactive contamination from Cesium-137; the products were distributed between July 17 and August 8 in Alabama and other states, and no illnesses have been reported.  WHNT News 19
