COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Land Trust of North Alabama will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tollgate Greenway project on September 4 at 11 a.m. at the Bankhead Trailhead Parking Lot (2442 Bankhead Parkway) in Huntsville, and the 1.2-mile paved greenway will follow Toll Gate Road on Monte Sano to provide a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists with an expected opening in spring 2026.  WHNT News 19

  • Huntsville Music Month returns this September with free concerts, festivals, and events that showcase local talent—weekly concerts in Big Spring Park and special AMERICANAFEST events in Nashville will boost the city’s creative scene and economy—while community expos and an instrument drive provide support for local music.   City of Huntsville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Municipal elections were held on Aug 26 in Hartselle as the mayoral race features incumbent Randy Garrison against challengers Missy Evans and David Lewis Witt—other city government seats were also contested.  WHNT News 19
  • The Defense Intelligence Agency’s Missile and Space Intelligence Center broke ground on a new facility in Huntsville — the construction is set to improve its capabilities and infrastructure to support its mission.  FOX 54
  • Michael McKay won the District 4 city council seat on Tuesday with 73% of the vote and said he is fired up to watch over taxpayer dollars — promising to cut waste and boost city projects. The new council member, a UAH alumnus with years of local service, will work with colleagues to improve parks and community facilities.  The Madison Record
  • Terrance Adkins was projected to win Decatur’s District 1 city council seat — he competed against Nick Perkins, Sabrina Bay and Perry Freeman after Billy Jackson left the position to run for mayor.  WHNT News 19
  • On Tuesday, the Huntsville Planning Commission approved a zoning plan for 572.48 acres in North Huntsville set for mixed commercial and residential development. The City Council will make the final approval vote on September 25th — a decision aimed at benefiting the growing community.  WHNT News 19
