CRIME NEWS

  • On August 27th at 2 a.m., Huntsville police arrested Valentin Villegas and Fernando Mota after a proactive patrol on Memorial Parkway discovered methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia in a spray-painted vehicle—charging them with drug trafficking.  WHNT News 19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Huntsville Planning Commission approved by a 5-4 vote on Feb. 25 a plan to rename part of Bob Wade Lane to Martin Luther King Jr. Highway despite concerns that the change could lower property values and alter mailing addresses — the measure now moves to the City Council for a Sept. 25 vote following a public hearing. The commission also approved zoning for 572 annexed acres to support varied housing options as the area grows.  AL.com
  • Huntsville’s planning department held public sessions last week from Monday to Thursday at City Hall to get feedback on its University Drive Transit Oriented Development Study—officials said the federally funded study will refine plans for roads, bikes and sidewalks along the key route. Future meetings are planned to further adjust transit and community connectivity in Northwoods, UAH and the MidCity District.  Huntsville Business Journal
