COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Members of the Shoals community turned out Saturday at Tuscumbia Park to offer prayers for injured Deshler High School freshman August Borden — the event showed strong local support for his recovery.  FOX 54
  • On Saturday, survivors of homicide tragedies gathered in Huntsville at the Annual Peace in the Park Cookout hosted by the Homicide Survivors Crime Victim Program, which gave people a chance to connect after painful losses.  WAFF 48
  • On the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Huntsville residents recalled the hard work they did to help thousands of evacuees find safe shelter in town. Their memories show a strong community effort + a lasting commitment to support those in need.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Huntsville Museum of Art reopens today after months-long renovations that added a new HVAC system and updated its exhibition spaces — the museum will offer free admission from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  FOX 54

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local officials celebrated the opening of the first section of the $43 million Northern Bypass at North Memorial Parkway and State Route 255 on August 29th, easing traffic and cutting commute times. The project—strengthened by federal funds secured by U.S. Rep. Dale Strong—is set to continue next year through additional phases that will complete a northern loop.  AL.com
  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said K9 Bella, aged 7, died Tuesday from a sudden medical emergency with her handler—she becomes the third K9 loss this month following Matyko on August 12 and Pici on August 2.  1819 News

  • Alabama lost to the Seminoles 31-17 in a college football game on August 30—marking their first 0-1 start since 2001.  WAAY 31
  • Alabama's football team fell to Florida State 31—17 in week one; quarterback Ty Simpson passed for 254 yards and two touchdowns. The Tide fell to 0—1 and will host UL Monroe on September 6.  WAFF 48
