EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ardmore High School and Cedar Hill Elementary are closed today because a water tank problem led to a disconnection from the local water authority, leaving residents with low water pressure. Limestone County Schools will provide an update later about the water issue. WHNT News 19
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Huntsville is set to be a key hub in the Golden Dome missile defense program that was announced earlier this year to counter emerging threats like hypersonic missiles—industry leaders including Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman are expanding local facilities with testing scheduled for late 2028. The program could drive billions in federal investment and create thousands of jobs as contracting decisions are expected in the coming months. Huntsville Business Journal
- ➤ The Army Contracting Command and the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation on Redstone Arsenal were named the contracting activities for three contracts worth over $1.73 billion last week—one contract supports computer services in Huntsville while the others fund air and missile defense systems with work set to finish from Sept. 30 to Dec. 28. - ➤ Today, Huntsville starts a sewer rate increase that will fund improvements to the city's sewer infrastructure as it grows — a measure aimed at keeping up with expanding demand. FOX 54
- ➤ Today, two tax breaks signed by Gov. Kay Ivey reduce the state sales tax on food from 3% to 2%—saving consumers about $122 million annually, and they also remove the tax on diapers and other baby products to save about $13 million a year. The break on baby products will expire in three years unless lawmakers extend it. AL.com
