CRIME NEWS

  • Huntsville Police ended a four-month investigation into a prescription drug ring across Huntsville and Madison County—finding over $45,000 in drugs, $72,000 in cash and three guns—and arrested 71-year-old Vernon Hereford on charges of drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and holding a gun as an ex-felon.  WAFF 48
  • The Huntsville Police Department wrapped up its participation in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' campaign that ran Aug. 15 through Sept. 2 and during the campaign officers arrested 53 drivers for DUI, issued 551 citations and warnings, and reported 72 traffic accidents—11 of which involved impaired drivers.  City of Huntsville
  • The family of John Scott Jr. filed a federal lawsuit on August 29 seeking $100 million from Decatur, Priceville—and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office for using excessive force during his mental health crisis that led to his death on April 22.  FOX 54

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Tuesday, SE Monte Sano Boulevard between Burritt Drive and Panorama Drive will be closed on weekdays through September 19 for utility pole replacement—flaggers will guide traffic daily from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. as drivers are urged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.  FOX 54
  • U.S. Space Command will soon move permanently to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville—bringing thousands of high-paying jobs and strengthening national defense—Senator Tommy Tuberville said.  FOX 54
