COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Huntsville opened a state-of-the-art skating rink that cost $2.3 million as part of the city's push to expand parks and recreation+the new facility now gives locals a modern space for skating.  WAAY 31
  • City leaders cut the ribbon for the new Stoner Park Skating Rink yesterday as the city opened its latest recreational facility. Built for $2.3 million by Butler Construction and designed by Nola Van Peursem Architects, the rink replaces the old tennis courts and now offers residents a covered outdoor roller skating venue.  City of Huntsville

CRIME NEWS

  • In November 2023, a Meridianville woman filed a federal lawsuit against Killen, its police chief and a former officer after being sexually assaulted during a traffic stop; she alleges that former officer Jarrod Gailen Webster—charged with rape and sodomy—ordered her out of her vehicle, assaulted her and caused permanent injuries, mental anguish and lost wages.  1819 News
  • Huntsville Police say car break-ins rose with 435 incidents reported from January through June and 46 firearms stolen from vehicles between April and June, and they urge residents to secure vehicles by locking doors and keeping valuables out of sight—each break-in affecting local families.  City of Huntsville
  • Huntsville police concluded the national campaign to keep roads safe from drunk drivers by arresting 53 people and issuing 551 citations from August 15 to September 2—efforts that also led to 11 cases involving impaired drivers.  WHNT News 19

SPORTS NEWS

  • Huntsville defeated Grissom 20—13 in the BGFN rivalry game of the week, and the team earned a key win in a hard-fought contest.  WAAY 31
  • Yesterday, in the 48 Blitz games, local teams posted dominating wins with scores of 29—7, 41—7, 54—7 and 58—22 while a Huntsville quarterback connected with his receiver for a touchdown and an Austin quarterback threw a long pass for a score. Voters will choose the 48 Blitz Play of the Week, sponsored by University Kia and Greenway Hyundai.  WAFF 48
  • Alabama A&M coach Dawn Thornton announced the 2025-26 women’s basketball schedule, which features an exhibition game against UAH and key home games including one against Ole Miss on Nov. 7. The schedule is designed to test the Bulldogs early—and set the stage for competitive SWAC play throughout the season.  FOX 54
