CRIME NEWS

  • Attorney General Steve Marshall said the Court of Criminal Appeals upheld Sean Kevin Sutton’s murder conviction in Limestone Co.—the 54-year-old man was convicted in Athens.  WAFF 48
  • Huntsville Police are urging residents to secure vehicles and lock valuables after noticing a rise in car break-ins and thefts—officials say simple steps can protect personal property.  WAFF 48
  • A Huntsville man, Christopher Devaughn Spencer, was arrested early Sunday after he shot an acquaintance in a Jordan Lane parking lot at 1:30 a.m.—police charged him with first-degree assault after the victim suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital in critical condition.  FOX 54
  • A man is in critical condition after being shot on Sunday at 1:30 a.m. on Jordan Lane when an argument escalated and 26-year-old Christopher Devaughn Spencer fired his weapon—police said the victim was taken to Huntsville Hospital.  WAFF 48
  • Hartselle Police said a police chase involving the Priceville department ended in a violent crash near the intersection of Highways 31 and 36 on Saturday at about 8:30 p.m.—a 17-year-old died and five others were hospitalized, including one in critical condition, with a suspect taken into custody.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • Huntsville Music Month is marking its fourth year this month and features an instrument drive that collects any new or used instruments to help high school students. Donated instruments will be refurbished and provided to schools—local music stores serve as drop-off points as the drive runs for a full year.  WAAY 31
  • Huntsville’s 2025 Jazz in the Park concert series kicked off tonight as local fans gathered at the park to enjoy live performances. The series will feature additional concerts over the coming weeks.  FOX 54

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Rex Reynolds said on FM Talk 106.5 that rising inflation and reduced federal funding have pushed up costs for two planned super prisons in Elmore and Escambia Counties—forcing a 50% price jump that now leaves enough money for only the Governor Kay Ivey Correctional Complex. Lawmakers will soon issue an RFP for the Escambia facility as its construction is set to begin in January.  1819 News

  • Oakwood University hosted a community health fair today where experts discussed diabetes, hypertension & dementia. Local residents learned ways to manage these conditions and ask questions about their health.  WAFF 48
