COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WLRH announced it will stop carrying NPR programming after federal funding is lost and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting closes in January 2026. The station will boost local shows with a new daily morning program launching October 1, 2025+ it will still offer international news from AP and BBC for local listeners.  FOX 54

CRIME NEWS

  • A 17 year old student died in a crash during a police chase when Priceville officers pursued a 40 year old suspect named Archie Hale along Highway 36—Highway 31, and hundreds gathered at Hartselle High School for a vigil while the officer involved is under internal and criminal investigation.  WAAY 31
  • The family of missing Huntsville realtor Ronald Dumas Jr.—last seen December 15 at MidCity Liquor on University Drive—is offering a $10,000 reward to help find him while police report that two individuals have been arrested and three more are sought in connection with the case.  WHNT News 19
  • Eleven men were arrested in Limestone County on human trafficking charges—Operation Summer Heat was conducted over Labor Day Weekend to stop online child exploitation and plans to traffic children using drugs and firearms.  WAAY 31

CULTURE NEWS

  • Huntsville’s annual Women in Music Week is set to run Sept. 12-21 and will feature over 50 women's performances on stages citywide — the week will start with the Love Jones Kickoff Showcase at The Electric Belle with Carvena with Alisha, Canderiah and Zami Mare. The event will include free and ticketed shows with ticketed performances featuring acts like Melissa Etheridge and Indigo Girls.  WAFF 48

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Since Aug. 14, more than $248 million in construction has started in the Huntsville area with projects including a $50 million logistics facility and a $37 million cancer treatment center. Huntsville issued 247 permits totaling $160 million—Decatur’s Clearview Cancer Institute facility is one key project among over 400 permits in nearby counties.  AL.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Land Trust of North Alabama broke ground on its Tollgate Greenway project on Sept. 4 on Monte Sano Mountain — a 1.2-mile paved multi-use trail for pedestrians and cyclists. The city awarded a $1.76M contract on Aug. 28 and added $500K in funds, and the greenway will open in spring as the Bankhead Trailhead lot remains closed for construction.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gen. Stephen Whiting met with Mayor Tommy Battle last Monday at City Hall to talk about moving Space Command’s headquarters to Redstone Arsenal—both leaders said the change will boost local national security efforts. The visit was Whiting’s first at City Hall and highlighted Huntsville’s strong ties with Redstone.  AL.com
  • From August 4 to 29, Huntsville Police said officers made 249 traffic stops—issuing 234 citations and 72 warnings—to enforce school zone rules and more than double last year’s citations as they worked to keep students safe.  FOX 54
