ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On September 9th, a police pursuit in Hartselle ended tragically with the death of a 17-year-old and injuries to five others—authorities are now examining the case for legal implications.  WAAY 31

CRIME NEWS

  • A Huntsville police officer, George Wheeler III, was arrested Sunday night on a DUI charge after a single-vehicle wreck on Tulip Tree Lane at 11:30 p.m.—he was off duty and not injured and now awaits an internal investigation by HPD’s Internal Affairs Division.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • Field Day, next to GigaParts on University Drive, opened on August 31 and offers indoor mini golf, duckpin bowling, axe throwing and interactive darts—along with a stocked bar, self-pour beer wall and big screens showing college football and local soccer. Founder Matt Hubbard said he built the venue to let families and friends have fun and cheer on their teams as Huntsville gets ready for football season and special events.  Huntsville Business Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The new Tollgate Greenway is under construction in Huntsville—costing $1.7 million and stretching 1.65 miles from the Bankhead Parkway parking lot to Monte Sano State Park. City leaders and the Land Trust of North Alabama say the trail will open by spring to help people enjoy the outdoors.  WAAY 31

  • Herman Stubbs joined First Horizon Bank today as Senior Vice President, Business Banking Sales Manager and brings over 35 years of experience to support local businesses in Huntsville.   • Capstone Building Corp finished building Bartley Lofts, a six-story, $71 million luxury apartment community at 805 Monroe St that features 273 homes. The project—developed by Doradus Partners and RCP Companies—offers upscale amenities like a pool and fitness center and is near restaurants and shops.  AL.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Representatives from the City of Huntsville, local businesses and school cross country teams met with media to prepare for the 2025 Southern Showcase cross country meet at John Hunt Park this weekend. At least 130 teams from 14 states will race on Saturday with college racers starting at 7:30 a.m. and high school teams at 8:00 a.m. + picture-perfect weather is expected.  The Madison Record
