- ➤ The STARS Dancing for HEALS fundraiser will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Von Braun Center to raise money for HEALS Inc.—which provides free medical and dental care to local children. WAAY 31’s Demetria Green and GM Mike Wright will emcee the event as community stars, including Dr. Jessica Ivey, dance to support the cause. WAAY 31
- ➤ Huntsville Parks & Recreation will host its free Fall for All festival on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Big Spring Park West. The event will feature pumpkin bowling, flower planting, mechanical bull riding, live music and snacks from local vendors. City of Huntsville
- ➤ Huntsville Animal Services moved from near-overcrowded conditions to level one capacity thanks to strong community support—each dog now has proper space and care. Officials urge continued adoptions, fostering, and sharing to keep the improvement going. FOX 54

- ➤ Today, Mayor Tommy Battle presents Huntsville’s proposed fiscal year 2026 budget—focusing on road work, quality of life, and public safety staffing. The plan includes a $343,723,103 operating budget with funds for street resurfacing, new road projects and extra police and parks employees, with further City Council discussions on Sept. 19 and Sept. 25. - ➤ The City of Athens approved a conditional rezoning for a planned 255-home community on September 10 ahead of the relocation of U.S. Space Command headquarters to Redstone Arsenal. Engineering and builder coordination began immediately to refine the plans and ensure that at least 45% of the property is preserved as open space—officials say the development will support long-term housing demand in the region. - ➤ Redstone Arsenal leaders addressed concerns over Gate 3’s new operation hours, which began on September 2 with closures at 1 p.m. due to a 17% reduction in security staff—officials said they are working with partners to resolve staffing challenges as USSPACECOM’s move brings future changes.
