COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Madison City Police partnered with local company Re-Bath to provide an $18,000 bathroom renovation for a Madison County resident with special needs to improve home safety and accessibility. The project shows the police department’s commitment to serving the community beyond their regular duties.  WHNT News 19

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Hiker Tyler Roach was bitten by a venomous snake in Bankhead National Forest last Thursday and was rescued after he could no longer walk—first responders from over 20 agencies airlifted him to Huntsville Hospital where he spent over four days and now he is recovering at home with lingering soreness and limited movement.  WHNT News 19

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The new ALDI store on Madison Boulevard opened yesterday in Town Madison — a nearly 20,000-square-foot store with over 100 parking spaces — after receiving a $3.1 million permit. It is the fourth store in the Huntsville-Madison area and is part of the chain’s plan to open more locations nationwide.  AL.com
  • ALDI will open its new store at 8455 Madison Blvd. near Hughes Road on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:30 a.m.—offering early customers golden tickets worth up to $100, free bags, and shopping totes. Customers can scan codes inside the store to enter a sweepstakes running through Sept. 14 for a $500 gift card available to locals within 50 miles.  FOX 54

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tomorrow, the Huntsville Music Office and Arts Huntsville will host a free Music Industry Career Fair & Community Expo from noon to 2 p.m. at the Von Braun Center East Hall—more than 20 local groups will offer job, internship, and volunteer opportunities in the music industry.  City of Huntsville

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAH’s Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education celebrated its 10th anniversary this week at the Student Services Building as UAH President Charles L. Karr honored founding director Dr. Tommy Morris with a custom coin—recognizing a decade of progress in research and teaching. The center has grown into a national hub with over 70 staff and student workers and leads in cyber defense research and outreach.  Huntsville Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Military members, first responders, and local leaders gathered today at the Huntsville Fire Department to honor those lost on September 11, 2001 by sounding sirens at exactly 7:46 a.m. They observed a moment of silence and raised the flag to half-staff — a tradition that honors the bravery and sacrifice of that tragic day.  WAAY 31
  • City officials removed a contract to equip garbage trucks with AI cameras from the Fiscal 2026 budget after residents raised concerns at the Sept. 11 meeting — the cameras were meant to spot code violations. The mayor said the contract details will be reworked over the next six to eight months and the council will vote to remove it from the Sept. 25 agenda.  AL.com
  • City Council Member Bill Kling outlined the proposed $343M city budget set to begin on Oct. 1 that commits about $80M for police, $65M for fire and rescue, $21M for landscape, and up to $18M for road repairs. He added that the plan includes building the Northern Bypass to ease downtown traffic—details will be discussed in a work session next week with a final vote expected in about two weeks.  WAAY 31
  • Huntsville welcomed Gen. Stephen Whiting from U.S. Space Command on Monday as Mayor Tommy Battle hosted his visit to City Hall amid plans to move the headquarters to Redstone Arsenal. The officials discussed the transition and said the move, ordered by the president earlier this year, will boost national defense + honor the city’s long military partnership.  FOX 54
  • Huntsville City Administrator John Hamilton answered questions about HPD and ICE during a city council meeting on September 11th—concerned citizens raised issues that prompted the discussion.  FOX 54
  • In Owens Cross Roads, first responders were honored at a Tuesday City Council meeting for heroic efforts during a June emergency when CPR and an AED saved a man. Mayor Tony Craig and Fire/Rescue Chief Brunce Swanson presented awards to Officer Vemar Wilson, Police Chief Jason Dobbins, Paramedic Steven Dunbar, and Firefighter-EMT Scott Randsome—Officer Wilson later received his award at City Hall after leaving the meeting for an emergency call.  WHNT News 19

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Hartselle Tigers beat Columbia 63-0 on September 11, extending Columbia’s losing streak to 95 games. The win put Hartselle at 3-0 as they built a strong season start.  WAAY 31
  • Nashville Soccer Club signed Canadian defender Jordan Knight from Huntsville City FC on Sept. 11 through the 2026 season with options for 2027 and 2028—he will join his team when they face FC Cincinnati on Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m.  WAAY 31
