CULTURE NEWS

  • A billboard on Jordan Lane in Huntsville honors Charlie Kirk with his image and the biblical verse Matthew 25:23—'Well done, good and faithful servant'—after he was shot at a Turning Point USA event last Wednesday. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Huntsville City Council approved $113.5 million for utility improvements for fiscal 2026 from the local utilities budget—$64.5 million will fund electric projects like substation upgrades and grid battery storage, $27.6 million will support water system enhancements, and nearly $11.2 million will improve the gas system including a high-pressure main relocation for safety.  AL.com
  • The City Council approved over $21 million in federal funds from the Safe Streets and Roads grant to add sidewalks, bike lanes, and lighting along Holmes Avenue from Monroe Street to Sparkman—this project will connect medical facilities with downtown and may start construction late next year with nearly $9.2 million in city funds. The upgrade aims to improve pedestrian safety and foster active travel.  AL.com
  • Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle announced at a city council meeting that he will soon cancel a proposed contract with a Tuscaloosa-based tech company for AI cameras — a decision made after residents voiced concerns over privacy and taxpayer spending.
