- ➤ Tonight, the Kids to Love Over the Edge event begins at Region Center when chief meteorologist Jeff Castle and meteorologist Amber Kulick rappel the 189-foot building to raise funds for foster children—this eighth annual fundraiser will offer food trucks, music and face painting all day for families. - ➤ First Stop held its annual Journey Home dinner Thursday night at The Jackson Center to raise funds for addressing Huntsville’s growing homeless crisis—Chad Rodriguez, the agency’s Executive Director, said the event included a silent auction that added needed resources for those in need. WAAY 31

- ➤ The National Cyber Summit returns to Huntsville as it will host over 3,000 cyber experts and more than 100 speakers at the Von Braun Center when the three-day event begins Tuesday, showcasing sessions on cyber threats, workforce development, and technical innovation. Mayor Tommy Battle and summit organizers announced they waived fees for government attendees—doubling registrations and boosting the event’s scale. Huntsville Business Journal

- ➤ Women in Music Week winds down with a series of weekend events in Huntsville. On Friday, local acts performed at Girl Jam at Stovehouse's Leisure Lawn Stage while today Melissa Etheridge & The Indigo Girls perform at The Orion Amphitheater and Sunday will bring family-friendly shows at CulturA Festival & Jazz in the Park. - ➤ The fourth annual Halloween Party and Haunted House event is planned for Saturday, October 18, from 3-8 p.m. at the Jaycee Building at John Hunt Park in Huntsville — it will include trick-or-treat booths, bounce houses, live entertainment, food trucks, and a Haunted House that opens at 5 p.m. Admission is free. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a Tuesday town hall at Lee High School, District 2 leaders outlined plans to upgrade schools by adding a new middle school at Hampton Cove and replacing part of Chapman with a magnet middle school. They also announced that a new Huntsville Junior High School will be built on current athletic fields beginning late 2026 and opening in 2028 — steps aimed at meeting growing student needs. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Huntsville’s MidCity District will soon see a major redesign of Old Monrovia Road as the city approved plans to enhance safety and walkability. The project will reduce the current five-lane road to two, add a median and street parking—improving connectivity to MidCity Plaza Shopping Center and benefiting local businesses with roadwork starting this year. - ➤ Huntsville drivers should expect traffic delays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today because of the 32nd Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride—police will close roads along major routes and state troopers will escort riders until each section clears. Drivers are urged to follow official directions and use alternate routes to avoid congestion. WAAY 31
- ➤ Today, city officials and community leaders gathered at the Huntsville Ice Sports Center on Leeman Ferry Road to mark the $44.6 million expansion with a ceremonial bagpiper—this project will more than double the facility’s size with a new arena seating 1,254 and a dedicated curling center set to open early 2027.
