COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Madison County ranked seventh among 2,764 counties on Niche’s Best Counties to Live in America list and was rated first in Alabama. The ranking was based on factors such as school quality, cost of living, job opportunities, and community amenities—elements that have helped the area become a top place to raise a family.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • Huntsville will hold its 23rd Buddy Walk to support families with children who have Down Syndrome — the event will celebrate community strength and promote advocacy. Organizers plan to bring residents together to share in these efforts — the walk will highlight ongoing local support for affected families.  WAAY 31

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Akima opened a new 35,000 square feet office today in Huntsville to support federal projects and add jobs in aerospace, IT, engineering and logistics. Mayor Tommy Battle, county leader Mac McCutcheon and federal representatives attended the ribbon cutting—Akima also donated $100,000 to the ASCTE Foundation to help students prepare for careers in cyber and technology.  Huntsville Business Journal

  • Leaders in government, industry, and NASA met in Huntsville today to talk about the future of the commercial space economy—sharing plans for projects and policies that will boost local innovation. The discussion set the stage for strengthened partnerships and growth in the region.  FOX 54

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Creekside Elementary School is celebrating 25 years since it opened its doors to students and staff—marking a key milestone in its history as it continues to educate local children.  WAFF 48

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced plans to redesign Old Monrovia Road between University Drive and Corporate Drive in the Mid-City District. The project — reducing the five-lane road to three lanes and adding a 12-foot-wide multi-use path, new street lighting, and landscaping—will begin in November and is expected to take about a year to complete.  WAFF 48
  • Redstone Arsenal's One Stop ID Card Section suspended issuing Common Access Cards after an outage began at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday—other ID services remain available and those with appointments can reschedule or wait for a fix today.  WHNT News 19
  • Guntersville mayor Leigh Dollar retained her seat after winning a runoff election yesterday that followed an August tie when both candidates received 1,065 votes each. She earned 1,710 votes (58.3%) while her opponent Jeff McLaughlin got 1,221 votes (41.7%) with a total of 2,931 votes cast—about 800 more than in August.  AL.com
  • A large water main break on Monday closed Slaughter Road near Madison Boulevard in Huntsville — crews are working on repairs to reopen the road.  FOX 54
