  • The Snail on the Wall bookstore on Wellman Avenue in Five Points is celebrating its eighth birthday as a bookstore and its one-year anniversary as a brick-and-mortar store with a two-day party from 10 to 5 today and tomorrow—featuring activities, drinks from Coffee Break, and prizes for loyal customers.  WHNT News 19
  • MADISON—Madison Methodist Church at 127 Church St. will host a free Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 27 with doors opening at 4 p.m. and a buffet starting at 5 p.m.; live music by No Name String Band and a guest speech by Dr. Harry L. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Glaukos broke ground on a new research and manufacturing campus in Cummings Research Park as Mayor Tommy Battle and local leaders celebrated the project that will boost local innovation. The initiative, with an $82 million investment + 154 full-time jobs planned by 2030, shows Huntsville's growing strength in science, technology and manufacturing.  City of Huntsville

  • Huntsville hosted the 'Around the World in 60 Minutes' fashion show on September 25 — organized by InterMuse Productions and the Alabama Fashion Alliance.  WAAY 31

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Madison County leaders approved a new budget that allocates more than $50 million to public safety for the jail, additional deputies, and vital equipment. The funds will also give every county employee a step raise and cost-of-living increase.  WAAY 31
  • The City of Huntsville approved a $9.98 million contract with Chorba Contracting Corporation yesterday to expand the Military Museum at John Hunt Park. The project will add a new metal building with offices, a conference room, and restrooms, along with limited repairs to the existing facility — a move that honors our community's military history over a 480-day construction timeline.  City of Huntsville
  • Huntsville City Council approved Mayor Tommy Battle's proposed $343.7 million fiscal 2026 budget with a 3-2 vote that includes an amendment giving local schools 30% of online sales tax revenue above $20.75 million; council members debated whether the funds should be earmarked for construction or to cover revenue shortfalls. The budget also increases funding for the police and fire departments and supports capital projects for street and sidewalk improvements.  AL.com
  • Madison County is investing over $50 million in public safety improvements—focusing on the jail, staffing, and equipment upgrades—to help make the community safer. The county said the projects will boost essential services for local residents.  WAAY 31
  • In Owens Cross Roads, officials announced on Thursday that they received a $6,901 grant from Alabama’s Mountains, Rivers and Valleys Resources Conservation and Development Council to launch the Tarklin Branch Pond Trail and Ecological Restoration work at Burke Park — a key first step to clean up the pond and surrounding area for residents.  WHNT News 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • Madison County Health Department released health inspection scores for local food and lodging establishments inspected from Sept. 15 to 19, showing scores between 82 and 100 with seven sites earning perfect scores. Several establishments recorded critical violations such as missing soap and incorrect temperatures — follow-up inspections are planned.  WAAY 31
  • Madison County distributed free Narcan during Save a Life Day to help combat overdoses—officials say the program might expand access to lifesaving medication and lower overdose deaths in the community.  WAAY 31

  • WalletHub's study compared 182 rental markets using 21 key metrics like safety and affordability. In the report, Huntsville ranked seventh and topped safety—making it a strong choice for renters.  AL.com
