COMMUNITY NEWS

  • MidCity District announced its fall lineup of events with Oktoberfest at The Camp running on Friday and today with live music and food specials, along with a Pumpkin Patch hosted by Reed’s Farms and Monster Mash starting October 7. Other events include the Venardos Circus from October 20 to November 3, the Whistlestop BBQ Festival on October 17 and 18, and a Holiday Market on November 9—offering a range of fall activities.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • Madison Street Festival is happening today in historic downtown Madison as it celebrates 43 years of local culture with a parade starting at 9 a.m.—the event will bring local music, art, food, and vendors and is expected to attract over 40,000 visitors.  The Madison Record
  • Huntsville Parks and Recreation is hosting a full lineup of Halloween events throughout October with free candy and activities for all ages. The fourth annual Halloween Party and Haunted House will be held Oct 18 at John Hunt Park — several other events are set at community centers.  FOX 54

BUSINESS NEWS

  • City Barbeque — a national chain famed for its slow-smoked meats — will open its first Alabama restaurant along Memorial Parkway in Huntsville at a 42,689-square-foot property on a busy retail corridor. SRS Real Estate Partners said the fast-casual venue will offer family-friendly dining with award-winning brisket, pulled pork, and ribs.  AL.com
  • Jeff's Bagel Run will open two new locations soon as its first Alabama shops, one at Westbury Square (975 Airport Road) in Huntsville and another at a retail center (12181 County Line Road) in Madison, offering freshly baked bagels, spreads, and coffee.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than one hundred fans gathered at Target in South Huntsville past midnight for Taylor Swift's album release—local music lovers joined the event to celebrate the new record.  WAAY 31
  • Huntsville hosts iFest 2025 today at the Jaycee Community Building at 2180 Airport Road SW—offering a free, family-friendly celebration with live music, dance, international food, crafts, and hands-on children’s activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as the city marks cultural diversity with over 60 countries represented, including new participants from Cameroon, Armenia, Portugal, and Venezuela.  FOX 54
  • Today at Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville, Breakaway Alabama kicks off with headliners The Chainsmokers and DJ Diesel — a.k.a. Shaquille O’Neal set to perform.  FOX 54

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today Huntsville Utilities opened a 25,000-square-foot systems operations center at 1145 Jordan Road—designed with cutting-edge technology to monitor electric, water, and natural gas systems and quickly dispatch crews during severe weather. The facility was completed in September and is built to withstand extreme tornadoes, with a ribbon-cutting scheduled for October 6 at 11 a.m.  WHNT News 19
  • Patterson Lane will close for realignment construction starting Monday, October 6 (for about four weeks) between Pulaski Pike and Murphy Hill Road; county officials advise drivers to use alternate routes (to avoid congestion).  WHNT News 19

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mushrooms are growing in yards in the Tennessee Valley as they do every year and experts say that while they are safe to touch, some wild types can cause stomach upset if eaten raw. They advise cooking wild mushrooms to help keep children and pets safe—especially those with green gills or changing colors.  FOX 54
  • A Hartselle nurse hosts mammogram parties to honor her late mother—she has helped over 100 women get screenings and will serve 30 more this year.  WAAY 31

  • Pro skateboarders discussed the upcoming Huntsville Bowl Jam — sharing insights on the planned skateboarding event — as they prepare to highlight local talent for fans.  WAFF 48
