- ➤ The STARS Dancing for HEALS fundraiser will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Von Braun Center—organizers say the dance will raise money for HEALS Inc. to provide free medical and dental care for children in Huntsville and Madison County. WAAY 31
- ➤ The Technology Student Association at Bob Jones High School will hold a Community Yard Sale on Oct. 18 from 8 to 11 a.m. in the front parking lot—vendors set up at 7 a.m. and funds will help with travel expenses as the event features a friendly rivalry with James Clemens’ Cyber Honor Society. - ➤ Huntsville Botanical Garden will host Little Monsters Mash on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., where children can enjoy crafts, face painting, costume contests, and a free trick-or-treat trail for toddlers. Later, Spellbound will offer a nighttime haunted experience for adults — with themed cocktails, live DJ music, and spooky displays — to support the garden's programs. The Madison Record
- ➤ Nossa Samba is an Alabama-based Brazilian cover band that is celebrating its 7th anniversary and earning a spot on the 2025 Grammy ballot with a concert scheduled for a future date – the band plans to perform in Huntsville as it marks this milestone and pursues major industry recognition. - ➤ Officials announced on October 8th that Huntsville International Airport will start a project to build a new parking deck to add parking spaces and improve traffic flow. Flyers are advised to allow extra time for delays during construction—guidelines include watching for signage and driving cautiously as the project has no set completion date. WHNT News 19
- ➤ The Huntsville City Council is voting today to accept $20 million in federal funds from a U.S. Department of Transportation grant for the $78 million Pinhook Creek-Skybridge project that will add a 1,100-foot cable suspended pedestrian bridge across Memorial Parkway and Governors Drive. The project is delayed to Dec. 31, 2028, has grown due to inflation, and will be built in phases as officials work with the Army Corps of Engineers to secure final permits — a cost increase from an earlier $65 million estimate. - ➤ Today, Huntsville International Airport announced plans for a new parking deck designed to add more spaces and improve traffic flow—travelers are advised to allow extra time and watch for detours during construction. The airport also issued permits for a $14.4 million Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting station scheduled to finish in spring and a $2.1 million concourse renovation that will take about four months. - ➤ Kelli Morton—lead nurse for Hartselle City Schools—has partnered with Cullman Regional Medical Center to host mammogram parties that help school employees get early breast cancer detection, inspired by her mother’s loss. - ➤ Today, HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology was awarded the AWS Imagine Grant for Children's Health Innovation to help improve how doctors study rare diseases in children. - ➤ Huntsville Parks & Recreation is hosting the inaugural Dink Pink Pickleball Day on Oct. 15 to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. - ➤ The Bob Jones volleyball team, currently ranked No. 2 in Class 7A with a record of 32 to 10, is relying on its young players—freshman Zoe Robinson and eighth grader Sophia Davis returning from injury—to push into the post-season playoffs. - ➤ Organizers of the Madison County Special Olympics will hold games at Milton Frank Stadium on Oct. 21 and need 600 more volunteers to support 530 athletes by running and recording—if rain falls, the event will move to Oct. 23. AL.com
- ➤ Local boxer Brad Ginn, who began boxing in 2003 and was named to the Alabama Boxing Hall of Fame this year, is undefeated in the Masters division at 20-0.
