CRIME NEWS

  • Karen Reeves, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau North Alabama, warned Huntsville residents that scammers are using open enrollment periods to steal personal information. • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the National Children's Advocacy Center said many children may grow up not recognizing that abuse is not normal in their homes. Intervention and clinical director Erica Hochberger stressed (drawing on her expertise) that teaching healthy relationship skills and conflict resolution is key for breaking the cycle.  WHNT News 19

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Department of Education opened the comment period last week for the 50-page Draft 2025 Comprehensive School Counseling and Guidance Model—designed to help public schools update their programs from the older 90-page model released in 2003—that is available on the ALSDE website for review and input until 5 p.m. on November 10.  1819 News

Residents are encouraged to attend meetings—especially the upcoming sessions—to learn about Huntsville’s plans for growth and development.  Huntsville Business Journal
