ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Flight data shows that a twin-engine Piper PA27 Aztec carrying pilot Mark Anderson and his two daughters crashed near Youngs Creek in Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness just before 4:15 p.m. Friday—local officials report all three onboard died and the FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.  FOX 54

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rocket City Pride Fest returns to Huntsville as local organizers prepare a series of events to celebrate diversity—further schedule details will be shared soon.  FOX 54
  • An All Star Salute to '90s Country will take place on February 5 at the Von Braun Center Propst Arena in Huntsville—more than 40 performances by the original stars will fill three hours with the hits they made famous, and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday with prices starting at $79 plus fees.  AL.com

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Job seekers in Huntsville will meet local employers at the ReLaunch Job Fair on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Governors Drive SW; organizers report that 21 companies will offer on-site interviews and attendees must use Entrance #7 on St. Clair Avenue — near the public library.  FOX 54

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Huntsville residents are advised to bring used lithium batteries to the City’s Solid Waste Disposal Authority Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1055 A Cleaner—open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.—to avoid fire risks and protect the environment.  City of Huntsville

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Construction firm Robins & Morton Group has finished a $14 million upgrade — adding a second elevator and new escalators — at Huntsville International Airport to improve traveler access, with prior restroom expansions also completed. Additional projects, including an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Station set for spring and a parking deck renovation expected to take about four months, will soon boost airport services further.  AL.com

  • Starting in 2026, Medicare will raise Part B premiums from $185 to $206 and increase the annual out-of-pocket limit for Part D drugs, and experts warn that updates on medicare.gov may be delayed due to the government shutdown—Social Security deductions could be affected if plan details appear incorrect.  WAFF 48

  • Work is under way on 179 build to rent homes in VLux Madison on Sanctuary Loop as Jim Chapman Construction Group aims to deliver rental options for the growing population. The gated community in Madison will offer one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom units starting at $1,249 monthly — and it is already fully leased with a waiting list.  AL.com
