COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Huntsville Animal Services will host its fourth annual Howl-o-Ween Trunk ’r Treat on Oct. 31 (3-5 p.m.), where families in costumes can enjoy games, candy-filled car trunks and waived adoption fees while touring the shelter to learn about pet care and adoption.  City of Huntsville
  • The 19th Annual Athens Storytelling Festival will run this weekend in Athens and invites readers and listeners to enjoy live storytelling (event details are posted locally) and share local stories (organizers emphasize community heritage).  WAFF 48
  • Huntsville Parks and Recreation hosted Boo Bash on Oct 23, offering Halloween-themed activities for local families—organizers say the event brought residents together in a fun and safe environment.  WAAY 31

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Hundreds in Huntsville gathered at Milton Frank Stadium on Wednesday to hold a candlelight vigil for the Anderson family after a Montana plane crash killed father Mark Anderson and his daughters, Lainey and Ellie—friends shared prayers, scripture readings and stories while the NTSB investigated the crash.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Madison Academy unveiled its new outdoor classroom where students helped clear land and pull weeds— the space features a sensory garden, butterfly and pollinator gardens, and a weather station and was certified by the Alabama Wildlife Federation after two years of work.  WAAY 31

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Edward Buckbee, a pioneer in space exploration and founding director of the Space & Rocket Center, was honored last Thursday at City Hall by Councilman David Little for his long service in the U.S. space program (beginning in 1959).  WHNT News 19
  • The City awarded a $1.5 million contract on October 23 to Grayson Carter and Son Contracting Inc. to build 1.5 miles of greenway in south Huntsville that will complete a 15-mile loop connecting the Tennessee River Greenway and Aldridge Creek Greenway, and the project will also provide connectivity to the existing trail network along Haysland Road—enhancing local mobility.  City of Huntsville
  • Downtown Huntsville is set for a major revamp as Big Spring Park East expands and new hotel projects are planned—centennial celebrations for the historic Times and Terry Hutchins buildings will follow soon.  FOX 54
  • The Madison County Commission is asking residents and businesses to show support for veterans and active military by displaying green lights in their windows through Veterans Day. County buildings are already lit in green as part of Operation Green Light— the commission partnered with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2702 to highlight available veteran resources.  AL.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new VA Specialty Care Clinic will open in the coming months across from Huntsville Hospital’s campus at the UAB building on Governor’s Drive to bring advanced care closer to veterans. The clinic will offer specialty services such as cardiology, neurology, and cancer infusions — a move aimed at reducing long drives for veterans and is part of broader plans to add mental health, dental and women’s clinics.  WHNT News 19
  • The Madison County Health Department released health inspection scores for local food and lodging establishments inspected Oct 14-17, 2025. Scores ranged from 85—100 and some sites had issues like missing handwashing supplies and low temperatures that required follow-up.  WAAY 31

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Real estate data shows that home prices in the metro area fell compared to last year with fewer homes on the market and average rents at $1,400 in Huntsville and $1,255 in Decatur. Analysts said that rising demand from incoming federal workers and lower rates may soon shift the market (a sign of change).  AL.com

  • Huntsville native Josh Kestner returns home to Propst Arena today with the Havoc meeting the Pensacola Ice Flyers—after years away playing for UAH and overseas teams, he says he feels nervous to finish his career where it all began.  WAAY 31
  • Huntsville City FC announced Tuesday that Alec Dufty was named Director of Soccer Operations. He brings professional playing and coaching experience to guide club operations and develop a clear pathway for players while keeping ties with Nashville SC.  FOX 54
