- ➤ Airports in Jamaica have reopened after Hurricane Melissa as recovery efforts continue—local groups are mobilizing to support relief. Oakwood University Church and the Salvation Army in Huntsville are raising funds over the next two weeks to cover shipping costs of up to $400 per barrel for essential supplies. WAAY 31

- ➤ Alabama A&M University asked people to stay away from the area near the AAMU Child Development Center due to an emergency situation—Huntsville EMS confirmed they were on the scene after receiving a call to 4240 Morrison Circle. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Land Trust of North Alabama received a 25-acre donation of protected habitat on Monte Sano from the Harman family in memory of their brother William Max Harman—this parcel shares 1,826 feet of boundary with the Forever Wild Land Trust and is managed by Monte Sano State Park to strengthen the conservation corridor. - ➤ A resource event for federal workers affected by the shutdown will be held Nov. 6-7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church at 600 Governors Drive SW in Huntsville—attendees should use Entrance #7 on St. Clair Avenue and bring their government ID. WHNT News 19
- ➤ During Community Planning Month in October, Huntsville City Council districts held public forums at libraries and community centers where planning commission members showed plans for the long-empty Huntsville Depot—where a greenway could link local neighborhoods—and discussed road improvements and a bank project near city schools.
