- ➤ Kate O’Neal from Madison County won the 2025 Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award after receiving ($100,000) from the NASCAR Foundation, and her nonprofit The Caring Link will use the funds to open two fully stocked Care Closets (Madison County Elementary and Harvest Elementary) to help local kids. - ➤ Feeding Families of Alabama at Mount Tabor Church is preparing for a record turnout at its upcoming food pantry event as SNAP uncertainty grows amid the government shutdown. WAAY 31
- ➤ The Shenanigans Comedy Theater has opened a food pantry—built by volunteers within five days after community members reached out when SNAP benefits paused—to help locals in need. - ➤ Huntsville Animal Services is partnering with Helping Animals Without Shelter to host a free pet food drive-thru event on November 16 at Tractor Supply, 3240c Memorial Parkway NW from 1-4 p.m.—the drive-thru will help pet owners affected by the federal government shutdown as volunteers hand out food with no questions asked. - ➤ Huntsville will face a severe weather risk Friday as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening — residents should secure outdoor items and monitor local forecasts for updates. WAAY 31

- ➤ The City of Huntsville approved a contract to build 1.5 miles of greenway between Green Cove Road/Buxton Road and Hobbs Road/Redstone Road as part of a plan to complete a 15-mile loop linking the Tennessee River Greenway and Aldridge Creek Greenway. City officials said the project will add more green space and improve local outdoor access. WHNT News 19
- ➤ Today, Huntsville’s HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is receiving over $2 million in state funding to support agricultural and forestry projects — Gov. Kay Ivey announced the grants. The funding includes $309,576 for a study in the Wiregrass region, $938,992 to boost crop growth, and $999,803 to protect wild forests — details that show the state’s support for key research efforts. 1819 News
