ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Huntsville approved land sales for a $240 million shopping center at the North Memorial Parkway–Northern Bypass intersection that is expected to generate at least $8.4 million in annual tax revenue, with construction starting in early 2026 and stores opening in 2027. The development will include Home Depot, Target, Express Oil Change and additional retailers as the city plans further expansion of the area. AL.com

- ➤ Teacher Mrinal Joshi from Journey Middle School was named National Educator of the Year by the National Space Club on October 29 at the Von Braun Center’s Saturn Hall—she teaches math and sponsors the Math Team. She plans to use part of the grant to help cover competition fees for her students. The Madison Record

- ➤ Huntsville Police Department officers received new AED devices to aid in cardiac emergencies — the devices were bought with opioid settlement funds approved by the city council — ensuring easier use during critical moments. WHNT News 19
- ➤ Alabama lawmakers are discussing a plan to tie university funding to student outcomes — the proposal would reward schools that improve graduation rates and academic performance as it moves through the legislature. WAAY 31
- ➤ Gov. Ivey is hosting the 77th annual Turkey Pardoning event and is asking local students to help name the two turkeys that will be spared (the options include George and Martha, Liberty and Justice, Tom Jefferson and Madis-hen, and Fil and Buster).
