COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Huntsville welcomes the LightTheWorld Giving Machine — a reverse vending machine that lets donors choose charities using a simple touchscreen — at Bridge Street Town Centre today at 4 p.m. The machine will support five local and two global charities with donations ranging from $5 to $250 and remain available until December 2.  WHNT News 19
  • Huntsville Parks and Recreation will host its third annual Big Spring Jingle on Dec. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Big Spring Park—Santa is scheduled to visit while local food vendors, a DJ dance party and holiday crafts for kids will help create a winter wonderland.  City of Huntsville

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire crews and the Morgan County Emergency Management Agency are on the scene at Bunge, a food processing company in Decatur, after a HAZMAT incident; no shelter in place or evacuation orders have been issued at this time.  WAAY 31

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket launched from Huntsville carrying NASA’s ESCAPADE spacecraft to Mars — the mission shows progress in space technology and sets the stage for upcoming tests.  FOX 54

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Madison County schools earned an A on the state report card with a record high score while Huntsville city schools received an 89, with 15 schools earning A's and both Hampton Cove and Monte Sano Elementary scoring 100—officials say these results reflect the hard work of teachers, administrators, and students. This performance shows a strong focus on academic improvement across the districts.  WAFF 48
  • Huntsville City Schools reported steady academic progress for the 2024–2025 school year with an 88 on the federal report and an 89 on the state report—up three points from last year. Thirty-five schools maintained or improved growth rates as fourth-grade math and seventh-grade English skills showed clear gains.  WHNT News 19

  • College football commentator Paul Finebaum is very close to leaving ESPN to run for Senate in 2026 (he will announce his decision after the 2025 college football season) as Alabama prepares to fill an open seat when Senator Tommy Tuberville runs for governor.  1819 News
  • The Alabama Department of Human Resources said SNAP benefits will be fully restored today after the federal government reopened, and some clients already see payments on their EBT cards—Governor Ivey called the move long overdue. The department is processing files for missed payments and new applicants so all eligible families receive their normal November allotments.  FOX 54

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Madison County Health Department released inspection scores for local restaurants and hotels inspected between November 3 and 7—some locations showed food safety issues such as rodent feces and buns with green residue while 14 sites received perfect scores.  WAAY 31
  • Kaitlynn Roark, Founder and CEO of Libertas Technologies, was named the 2025 American Heart Association Huntsville Leaders of Impact winner after serving as the top fundraiser from September 18 to November 5—her award will be celebrated at the 2026 Heart Ball at Von Braun Center on April 11 at 5:30 p.m.  Huntsville Business Journal
