COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Crews are making progress on the upcoming Ditto Landing event center in South Huntsville—riverfront upgrades are planned to create new public spaces.  WAFF 48
  • The Salvation Army launched its annual Red Kettle Campaign for the Christmas season yesterday in North Alabama. Kettle booths will collect donations from locals as the holidays approach—supporting community aid.  WAAY 31
  • The 100 Black Men of Greater Huntsville will host their annual holiday gala to support and uplift young people in North Alabama.  WAAY 31

CULTURE NEWS

  • Last week, the Von Braun Center unveiled a $15.3 million upgrade to its backstage area at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall in an open house—expanding the space from 4,300 to over 17,000 square feet—and set the stage to attract larger touring productions.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • Huntsville Botanical Garden has kicked off its 30th annual Galaxy of Lights event — running from November 14 to December 31 and featuring both cherished displays and new attractions such as the Evergreen Express tram tours and Sensory Hours. Ticket advance purchase is advised — gate space is limited and proceeds support the garden’s nonprofit mission.  WAAY 31

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Business and education leaders gathered at Campus 805 on November 6 to celebrate a $1 million fundraising campaign that helped 500 teachers pursue National Board Certification. The five-year Raise Your Hand initiative has boosted the number of certified educators and is set to further enhance our local schools and economy.  Huntsville Business Journal
  • The Alabama Department of Education is accepting public comments until 5 p.m. November 27 on a draft plan to update digital literacy and computer science standards for K-12 schools. The proposal will be reviewed by the State Board in December to modernize classroom learning.  1819 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At the Defense Munitions Proving Ground in Townley, munitions detonated as officials cut the ribbon on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, with Rep. Robert Aderholt attending the launch. Announced last year by Global Technical Systems, the facility includes a 15,000-square-foot control test center plus a second warhead test arena expected to create about 20 jobs and support Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal.  AL.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Limestone County Health Department released food inspection scores for establishments inspected Nov 3—7 that ranged from 85 to 100, with Bento Nouveau in Huntsville earning a perfect score and several venues in Athens, Madison, and Elkmont addressing critical violations in food handling and storage.  WAAY 31
  • Inspectors from eight counties released weekly restaurant health inspection scores, and Senjyu House in Scottsboro earned a low score of 75—its violations included a dirty ice machine, undated food items and flies in the kitchen caused by a broken door that was later fixed. Other establishments such as Marathon mini-mart, Agave Mexican Grill and several sites in Guntersville received scores from 76 to 84 due to issues with dishwashers, chemical storage and missing supplies.  WAFF 48

  • Andy Schatzley, manager of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, was named the Los Angeles Angels' new infield coach—he is the first on-field coach from the team to make it to the majors after four seasons and 245 wins. This promotion adds to his strong record of developing players, with 33 of them reaching the big leagues.  FOX 54
