COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Dec. 15, Huntsville's Jewish community united after a terror attack occurred in Sydney on the first day of Hanukkah. Local leaders say residents remain resilient and supportive as they come together in the wake of the event.  WAAY 31
  • A Christmas tree along the Tinsel Trail at Big Spring Park honors 13 local police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty and reminds community families of their sacrifice, with Monday, Dec. 15 marking Officer Freeman’s anniversary.  WAFF 48
  • Samella Jones, a 61-year-old resident at The Huntsville Summit apartments, said repeated calls for heat repairs returned only automated responses as she and other tenants face freezing conditions. Federal funding will support a complete renovation starting in March — management has yet to address the issue.  WAFF 48

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Huntsville-based veteran-owned Resolution, LLC was selected for the Missile Defense Agency’s SHIELD contract to boost multi-layered defense systems. The 10-year award lets Resolution deliver specialized space engineering services—including power systems, guidance, and test support—to government customers.  Huntsville Business Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The public library added 50 local albums to its BLAST music platform on Dec. 15, expanding its collection from local artists. The service lets listeners stream without a library card and will feature more local submissions starting September 2026 (as part of Huntsville Music Month).  City of Huntsville
  • A commemoration service held Sunday in Huntsville celebrated Rosa Parks’ legacy — the event highlighted her enduring role in advancing justice.  FOX 54

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville is preparing for Artemis II's February launch that will send astronauts around the moon as teams finalize integrated tests and simulations. The center will also develop landing systems with industry to support future crewed lunar missions.  AL.com
  • Alabama Public Television officials voted in November to continue offering PBS programming through June 30, 2026 after Gov. Kay Ivey requested a public review, following reports that Arkansas became the first state to drop PBS programming.  1819 News

  • With a cold snap gripping the area today, residents are switching to firewood instead of raising their thermostats to stay warm. Local stores report increased firewood sales as people prepare for the chill.  WAAY 31
