  • Kim Warren of Huntsville is rebuilding her life after her apartment burned and she lost many belongings. She is moving to a new unit at Summer Tree Apartments — despite facing a possible rent increase and financial challenges.  WAFF 48

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered earlier versions of his famous speech in Huntsville at Oakwood University on March 19, 1962 and at Miami’s Historic Hampton House, showing the speech’s deep roots. An Oakwood graduate recalled the campus excitement during that historic visit.  FOX 54
  • U.S.S.R.C. released a full interview on its Best Planetarium contest and upcoming Artemis II events to highlight new space-themed activities for local fans (including contest rules and event previews). The interview is available on FOX54 for Huntsville viewers.  FOX 54
  • Huntsville's U.S. Space & Rocket Center was nominated for a USA Today 10 Best vote for its planetarium, highlighting its role as a local educational attraction. The nomination recognizes its ongoing appeal among visitors and space enthusiasts.  FOX 54

HEALTH NEWS

  • Members of the American Red Cross and Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Chapter from Alabama A&M installed free smoke alarms in homes in Harvest to help keep local residents safe. They focused on protecting families and raising fire safety awareness in the community.  FOX 54
  • Alabama legislators are considering Senate Bill 19 to remove copays for prostate cancer screenings for Black men and those with a family history, which would require insurance companies to cover the full cost. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Steve Livingston, would take effect in October if passed.  WAFF 48
