- ➤ Huntsville Police arrested Cory Dewayne Horton (54) on a first-degree arson charge after he intentionally set a fire outside a bedroom window at a home on Yukon Drive late Wednesday night during an argument, and he is now held at Madison County Jail without bond. WHNT News 19

- ➤ Panoply Arts Festival returns this weekend at Big Spring Park in Huntsville with up-and-coming acts including Camacho, Billy Allen + The Pollies, a. jené, Common Man and Carver Commodore — residents can buy passes online until 4 p.m. today, with weekend passes at $20 and single-day passes at $15. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Huntsville approved an agreement on April 24 to hire Dr. Larry Lowe as its first Chief Innovation Officer, and his two-year consulting contract will begin May 1 as he helps agencies such as Huntsville Utilities and the Solid Waste Disposal Authority adopt new technology+ improve city operations without cutting jobs. - ➤ Today the city approved plans to expand the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum at John Hunt Park from 12,000 to about 25,700 square feet. The city will bid the project within 90 days and construction will take about 16 months, adding new exhibit areas, offices, conference rooms, parking, and outdoor display spaces for military vehicles. - ➤ Huntsville man David McElhaney is urging lawmakers to pass SB-190 to provide free prostate cancer screenings for high-risk men starting at age 40—he said the bill unanimously cleared committee on Wednesday and is now headed to the House floor, with hopes it will soon receive Governor Kay Ivey’s approval. - ➤ HudsonAlpha launched a pilot study called HOPE AD at the Smith Family Clinic for Genomic Medicine to study how genetics and lifestyle affect Alzheimer’s risk in healthy adults ages 65—75 with a close family member who has dementia.
