  • The Madison County Sheriff’s Office hosted the first leg of the annual Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run in downtown Huntsville on Friday to raise awareness for the Special Olympics in Troy; law enforcement from across counties participated and the games began on Friday and continue through today.  WHNT News 19
  • Huntsville Animal Services treated its longest resident to a day out of the kennel on May 29, a special break that allowed staff to celebrate the animal's milestone stay at the shelter.  WAAY 31

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marshall County Tourism & Sports will unveil a new photo trail next week with a ribbon cutting on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cathedral Caverns State Park. The trail features braille signage and accessible stops at local parks along Lake Guntersville + Bucks Pocket State Park.  AL.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local beekeepers in Huntsville urge residents not to call an exterminator when large bee swarms are spotted on trees or fences this spring; they say experts can safely relocate the bees (critical for pollinating local produce).  FOX 54
  • On Saturday, the Huntsville Green Team and volunteers cleaned up the Edmonton Heights neighborhood. The cleanup supports ongoing local efforts to care for the environment.  WAFF 48

HEALTH NEWS

  • North Alabama's first psychiatric urgent care opened in Huntsville to offer same-day mental health help, aiming to serve residents needing urgent support. The facility now accepts walk-ins and scheduled appointments.  WAFF 48

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Huntsville Planning Commission approved rezoning of 500 acres in north Huntsville for a planned 1,800-home development near North Village Town Center + City Council has not yet set a vote date to designate the project.  WHNT News 19
