BUSINESS NEWS

  • Performance Drone Works held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and demonstrated its new C100 drone by dropping a mock explosive payload behind its 90,000-square foot robotics facility in the Research Park District. The company began drone production on July 1 and has military contracts as it plans to hire rapidly, adding high-quality jobs and an $81 million annual impact to Huntsville—boosting the local economy.  Huntsville Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Huntsville police said Jennifer Renate Gray, 53, was arrested on Saturday after an argument on Governors Drive escalated when she hit a woman with a small screwdriver—she was charged with second-degree assault and her bond was set at $15,000.  WHNT News 19
  • A Huntsville man was arrested this weekend for allegedly assaulting two police officers — the incident occurred just months after the city settled with him.  FOX 54

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • ALDOT will suspend all temporary lane closures on state highways for Labor Day Weekend from Aug 29 at noon—Sept 1 at 11:59 p.m. to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety for holiday travelers. Officials remind drivers to follow speed limits and avoid distractions for safer travel.  WHNT News 19
  • The Huntsville Police Department’s Special Operations Division will move to a new building at 2411 9th Ave to support its expanding units and operations. The renovation of the former General Services Projects Office space will begin in mid-September and last about five months — Parks & Recreation will continue its work on the second floor.  WHNT News 19

  • On Monday, the Alabama Department of Public Health announced a measles case—the first in the state since 2002.  WAFF 48
  • The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed that a child under five in North Alabama got measles—the first case in the state since 2002. Officials said the child contracted the virus while traveling outside the U.S. and urged parents to ensure their children are vaccinated.  WAAY 31
